BIG NEWS!

So I guess it's time that I spilled the beans. I quit my jobs.

But wait! There's more, so very much more!

Remember way back three weeks ago when I hinted that our next LAN party may be sponsored? Well, the possibly-sponsoring party, the owner of local ISP Comstar, is my new partner.

Phischkneght Works And Services is now a new LLC (or at least it will be when I finish signing all the legal papers), and I'm now in business for myself exclusively. No more dabbling. This is risky, and exhilarating, and yes, it's already been frustrating at times.

Who knows what will happen? All I know is that I'm going to give my damnedest to make sure it works. If it doesn't, I and my family will survive. We've seen worse than a failed family company. And if it does work...well, that would be uncommonly nice.

So, a couple of points of order are...uh, in order.
  1. If you prefer not to write out "Phischkneght Works And Services, LLC," you can just make the check out to PWS.
  2. If you need internet service, and you don't already have a preferred provider that can give you service at your preferred location, please speak to me. I'm here to help.
  3. If you need computer help, talk to me. I'm sure we can work something out.
  4. If you have friends who need computer help, please have them talk to me. See the end of the above item.
Things being what they are, I may now have plenty of time to write new posts (gulp). I've had one in the works for PhischX for a while now, so I'll try to get it finished and polished and published.

2006 Phischkneght New Year's LAN Party Planning

This weekend, Leon and I had high hopes. We were going to get the initial work of LAN party planning done. We would look at a calendar and end up with a firm date for the 2006 New Year's LAN Party. And then we got distracted by other crap.

Left to his own devices, Spaceman Spiff had to make an executive decision. And so, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, fellow spacemen and space kittens, the Annual Phischkneght New Year's LAN Party 2006 will be on....20 Feb. 2006.

Oh, shut up.

Just because it's 1/7th of the way into the new year doesn't mean the year isn't new. So I'm simply not interested in your Januarially-biased editorial.

Those of you who are federal holiday aware will notice that Feb. 20th 2006 is Washington's Birthday Observed. This mean that those of you who are in school, have day jobs, are looking for other excuses, etc... ...are out of luck. You will attend, or you'll live in ignominy. And that isn't good.

Now, we've got a bit of an issue to address. Many of us have been playing Half-Life since what feels like the dark ages. We like the first one. We like to meet periodically and really blow the hell out of each other. It's familiar and comfortable and fun.

Then we've got others--younger members if you will--who would like to LAN it up with Half-Life 2. There are still others who think the Half-Lifes are great, but they'd like some variety, like Motocross Madness 2.

The point is, we're floudering a bit on the old What To Play question. Need For Speed used to be a popular choice, but there were problems with XP compatibility. There are new versions, and if we decide that's what we want to play, then that's what we'll play.

So, contact Leon or I, or make a comment to this post, and we'll figure out what the right path will be.

And you will want to voice your opinion, because we may just be able to swing having no cover this time. We may have a sponsor for the party. More details to come.
